Twenty-five years ago, I went to the city early, excited to be going on a vacation with my husband leaving on an 8pm flight. I...

I've spent years developing these characters, and this one is dear to me. No, no, the story's done. I yawned. But I couldn't go back to sleep and felt prompted to go to my office and write "his" thoughts. Can any writers relate?

I returned to bed and was awakened a half hour later with more suggestions from my beloved character. This continued several times through the night. But in the morning when I added all the suggestions, they were exactly right, and I thanked him for waking me up.

I wondered how many times does God try to get my attention? Do I spend enough time to hear the still small voice? We hurry about being preoccupied with so many important "things" that the real issues can go unnoticed. But God is persistent and invites us back to our journey in the light. That nudging can come in a dream or through a stranger. Or there is a small voice that will not leave our minds. And we have a choice: ignore these messages, or get up, listen, and do something with them.

I found this lovely thought: "God sometimes whispers, so we can move closer to Him." When we hear a soft voice, we lean in. How special, how wonderful, even if we lose some sleep.

Have you listened to that still small voice even when inconvenienced? What happened?

Finding joy right now may be a challenge. I found great wisdom in The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Abrams. Both faced horrendous challenges, and yet they exude joy.

Here is my synopsis of their Eight Pillars of Joy: Perspective. Gratitude. Humility. Humor. Acceptance. Forgiveness. Compassion. Generosity—it is in giving that we find joy.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote, "We are fragile creatures, and it is from this weakness, not despite it, that we discover the possibility of true joy."

Our light is contagious. So let your light so shine!

Where are you finding joy on life's journey these days?
Happy are those who trust in the Lord, who rely on Happy are those who trust in the Lord, who rely on the Lord. They will be like trees planted by the streams, whose roots reach down to the water. They won't fear drought when it comes; their leaves will remain green. Jeremiah 17:7-8

We are living with uncertainty daily. What are ways we can control our reaction to it?

I once hosted a meeting for Daughters of Abraham, an organization I co-founded that brings together women of the three Abrahamic faiths. Our theme was "Being Comfortable with the Uncomfortable." We asked, What is a soul trait or value that you want to develop in these uncertain times, and why?

Some of the values shared were:
Patience in all things, waiting for God's guidance.
Truly listening to one another with compassion and not anticipating what to say.
Do your best and then rest, and let God do the rest, trying not to fix everything.
Serenity, being at peace and not entering into the chaos or adding to it.
Trusting God to be with us every step of the way.

Memorizing Bible verses seems to help me:
"I will both lie down in peace and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8 NKJV
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 ESV
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

What would you add to the list? What ways have you learned to face uncertainty?
