God Is Always Watching Over Us by Desiree Future
Dear friends,
I had hernia surgery ten days ago, and oh my, I didn’t expect the aftermath of pain. I reached out to Desiree, my dear friend and one of the Mighty Four critique partners, to write this blog. Our group started over four years ago, and I’m ever so thankful for each of them. Desiree is a devoted Christian writer who, despite her demanding job and health challenges, continues to write from the heart with a new voice to be heard. I am blessed to have her friendship. An excellent message for us today. I’m on the mend and thanking God for his healing.
God Is Always Watching Over Us

One Saturday, I was driving down the street when I came to a light I knew was about to change to red. Dropping my speed from twenty-five to twenty, I slowed. At that same time, a man and woman stepped off the curb, right into my path.
Without hesitation, I hit my brakes to avoid hitting them. The man pushed the lady back as she dropped her phone. It seems neither had been paying attention to the light, which was still green for me.
If my mind serves me correctly, I was about ten feet or less from them. Thankfully, I had already slowed due to the light about to change colors. This entail allowed me to brake quickly without causing an accident.
The man was able to grab the phone and continue crossing the street at the now turned red light. He mouthed the words “Thank you” to me as I waited for them to get on the sidewalk.
To me, it seems nowadays everyone is so distracted with their phones that they don’t pay attention. Whether they are crossing the street or driving, paying attention has taken a back seat to cell phones.
In life, we can get so distracted and busy that we don’t see what is going on around us. This is the most crucial time when we really need to be observant of our surroundings. You may end up in the middle of a situation simply because you were distracted.
When my son was in middle school, he was on his way home from school. He was walking along a small pathway past the basketball court. My son had his headphones on and was not really paying attention. After hearing shouting, he turned around and saw a boy being chased by another with a knife in his hand.
Had my son not heard my neighbors yelling for him to get out of the way, he would have been stabbed. We live in a crazy world, and things are not the same as when I grew up in the seventies. Some people value only the things they want. It’s sad, but it’s true.
This is the reason we need God. Having someone in your corner is the best thing ever. He speaks for us, through us, and guides us to His way. Our plans may be one thing, but He has a better one.
You may plan to go fishing, and then your car stalls, leaving you waiting for the mechanic to fix it. Meanwhile, a sudden storm blew down large trees on the road you take to get to the lake to fish.
One day, you go into work late because of an early doctor’s appointment. You find out that everyone who normally parks with you was given parking tickets earlier.
Running late caused you to miss your train to work. Your phone rings, and you receive tons of text messages asking if you’re okay. Turns out your 733 train derailed and crashed.
God is always watching over us, even when we don’t think He is. The moments when we escape certain harm are the moments He has protected us. The times when we don’t see actions after praying for something are the times when He is working it out for our good.
When God allows us to open our eyes each day and take a deep breath, that is when we know for sure that God is real. As no one can set the sun and drop the moon while breathing the breath of life into you.
Psalm 121:5-8 The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:5-8
