    • Character is revealed when pressure is applied. " Character is revealed when pressure is applied. "We know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His Love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Romans 5:3-5 After 35+ years in Corporate America, perseverance was something I began to understand through challenging times, especially reorganizations and layoffs. I learned how important character was in motivating and supporting people, especially in the hard times. Character is not something you can learn from a class or a video. It is built over time. Character is revealed when pressure is applied. David Horsager lists five ways to build character: Be humble — humility is the beginning of wisdom. Live out your principles and values. Be intentional — integrity does not happen by accident. Practice self-discipline — do what is right over what is easy. Be accountable — surround yourself with people who have high expectations, lose the pride, and open yourself up to accountability. What I would add: Sharing the Light. Always give credit where it is due. Make those around you feel valued. I memorized Romans 5 a long time ago. It reminds me of a saying my mother used to tell me when I was going through something very challenging. She'd make me a cup of tea in her Staffordshire China cup and say, "It adds metal to the alloy, dear." I always wanted to respond, "But I have enough metal." These verses feel like our progression of life. We all go through trials that sometimes last longer than we would want. Yet these trials build our abilities to cope, which builds our character that leads to hope. What have you learned about character? What would you add to the list?

Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 Cancer brings a language no one wants to gain—tests, treatments, waiting. Catching it early can make such a difference. Many feel nothing; there are no symptoms. Annual exams matter. I found ten practices that are helpful: 1️⃣ Cling to your faith. 2️⃣ Keep a positive attitude. 3️⃣ Be honest with family, friends, and doctors. 4️⃣ Let friends and family help you. 5️⃣ Get the rest you need. 6️⃣ Boost nutrition. 7️⃣ Keep exercising. 8️⃣ Be in nature. 9️⃣ Keep planning the future. 🔟 Do what you love and be gentle with yourself, as perhaps it may need some adjustments. For those facing uncertainty, waiting for results, or getting them and feeling scared: we are not alone. Our Lord will go with us wherever we go. Sink into His arms and find peace. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Although it is fiction, the ‘background setting’ information is accurate and helps the reader to understand the relationships of family and friends in biblical times, as well as the role and authority of religious leaders.
