When God Speaks Through a Tree

One of the things I love most about God is His creation. My eyes take in this beauty on my daily walks through the neighborhood....

  • I'm looking forward to attending the Network of Bi I'm looking forward to attending the Network of Biblical Storytellers International (NBSI) 41st Annual Conference later this month.

Each summer, people from around the world gather to learn, tell, and experience Scripture through the ancient art of biblical storytelling. For more than 30 years, NBSI has been an important part of my faith journey. There is something powerful about hearing Scripture told by heart. God's Word comes alive in a way that challenges, encourages, and inspires.

This year feels especially meaningful. NBSI is where I first learned the story of Zelophehad's daughters. Now, for the first time, I'll be bringing Daughters of the Wilderness to share and sign with the very community that helped shape my love for biblical storytelling.

It's one of those beautiful full-circle moments that reminds me how faithfully God weaves our stories together.I'm excited to reconnect with friends, learn from gifted storytellers and scholars, and grow in this ministry I love.

Have you ever experienced biblical storytelling?
Twenty-nine years ago, God brought Roger into my l Twenty-nine years ago, God brought Roger into my life, and I have thanked Him ever since.

Long before I wrote Daughters of the Wilderness, I experienced a moment I'll never forget. I had just moved to New York City and attended a Luciano Pavarotti concert in Central Park. Surrounded by thousands of people, I sensed God whispering to my heart:

"He is on his way to you. He will love you and will love God."

Years later, I gave those words to Noa in Daughters of the Wilderness:

"The presence of God enshrouded me—a gift, a genuine gift that whispered, 'He is on his way to you. He will love you and will love God.'"

As Roger and I celebrate our 29th anniversary, I'm reminded that God was faithful to that promise. Roger has been my best friend, my partner in ministry, and one of God's greatest gifts in my life.

Happy Anniversary, Roger. I'm so thankful God brought us together. Here's to 29 wonderful years—and to the journey still ahead.
There was a point during the publishing of Daughte There was a point during the publishing of Daughters of the Wilderness when I honestly wondered if I had made every mistake possible. Every day seemed to bring another challenge, another lesson, another obstacle.

Then one day, I stopped trying to solve everything on my own.

I simply prayed, "Lord, I can't do this without You."

That was the turning point.

Not because every problem disappeared overnight, but because my perspective changed. Instead of striving and worrying about the next hurdle, I asked God for direction to take the next step.

And then...doors began to open that I never could have planned myself. God began bringing new people into my path—people I never expected to meet. Unexpected opportunities unfolded. What once felt impossible became a series of God-incidences that reminded me God had been walking beside me all along.

James goes on to say, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God... But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt." (James 1:5–6)

I'm still learning that lesson.

Sometimes God doesn't remove the trial. Sometimes He uses it to teach us perseverance, deepen our faith, and remind us that He wants a personal relationship.

Has there been a time when surrendering something to God changed your perspective?
Tracy, thank you for nurturing a love of biblical Tracy, thank you for nurturing a love of biblical storytelling that helped bring this story to life. Your influence continues to echo through these pages on all you do as Dean of the Academy for Biblical Storytelling!

Thank you for capturing the spirit of courage and faithfulness in this story. Your words about inspiring others bring this journey full circle for me.
